Teens and young adults have unique needs that are all their own.
WMCHealth’s Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital offers specialty services that focus on the specific physical and psychological characteristics of adolescents and young adults ages 12-26. Our specialists are trained and experienced in meeting the needs of this age group and can work with you and your child to help them grow into healthy adults.
Why Choose Maria Fareri Children's Hospital?
Like the minds and bodies of our teenage patients and young adult patients, the specialty of adolescent medicine is always changing. What makes our hospital unique is its dedication to the advancements of medicine in adolescent health. As an academic research hospital, we are actively engaged in pioneering advanced therapeutic strategies to support your growing adolescent.
Adolescence and young adulthood are periods of tremendous physical, emotional, and intellectual change. Confidentiality is a significant concern for many of our patients, and we rely on a trusting relationship to allow concerns to be shared. Our dedicated pediatricians approach adolescents and young adults in a way that honors their genuine concerns. We believe in arming them with information to support their bodies and minds into adulthood.
Adolescent Medicine Treatments and Services
We provide care for a full spectrum of issues impacting teen health, including:
Adolescent Gynecology, Contraception, and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Management
In addition to overall gynecological and sexual health, our pediatric teams treat many menstrual issues that teens and young adults may face, including amenorrhea, cysts, irregular periods, painful or heavy periods, PCOS, PMS, and PMDD. We also provide information, screening and treatment for STIs and HIV, and access to all contraceptive education and methods.
Eating Disorder Management
The Eating Disorder Management program at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital offers expert care and support for your child’s recovery. We treat eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder), bulimia, and binge eating disorder. Care is offered in many settings, including outpatient and inpatient.
Gender-Affirming and LGBTQ Care
Gender identity and sexual orientation can be complex topics for adolescents, young adults, and their families to navigate. Understanding these complicated issues in adolescence is crucial to adult health. Our compassionate staff will discuss strategies such as puberty suppression, hormone therapy, and surgery. The specific treatment plan is unique to your child and family’s needs.
Mental Healthcare
Our caring team of therapists and psychologists supports adolescents and young adults with mental health challenges such as anxiety disorders, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Preventive Healthcare
The best healthcare plan is the one that supports patients before they find themselves ill or in need of immediate care. We provide annual health visits, screening tests, same-day sick visits, and vaccinations.
Adolescents and Young Adults with Cancer
Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital partners with WMCHealth’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Program to provide specialty care to teens and young adults with cancer or who are survivors of cancer.
Inpatient Services
Our adolescent medicine specialists work on an outpatient basis and also provide multidisciplinary and acute inpatient care for many teenage and young adult needs. Our pediatric specialists are equipped to support adolescents and young adults with urgent and long-term health issues relating to eating disorders, gynecologic and menstrual emergencies, and mental health.
