Having a newborn with a critical health condition can be one of the most difficult situations a parent can face. WMCHealth understands that and is ready to take action. The Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital provides exceptional care to critically ill newborns. We are the only Level IV Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the state of New York. Our RNICU has access to advanced technologies and facilities to help the tiniest and most vulnerable patients grow and thrive.

Care Provided at the NICU

WMCHealth’s NICU has the technology and medical expertise to treat a spectrum of critical issues in newborns, from neurological and cardiac conditions to respiratory and GI complications. We treat newborns with health issues, including:

  • Jaundice
  • Seizures
  • Premature birth
  • Failure to thrive
  • Low blood sugar
  • Low birth weight
  • Genetic disorders
  • Conditions requiring surgery

We also have the expertise to treat our smallest patients with critical and serious conditions, including:

  • Cancers
  • Infections
  • Short gut
  • Facial defects
  • Blood disorders
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Urological issues

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital provides access to additional services, including:

  • Regional Perinatal Center: Provides critical care in the initial minutes after birth
  • High-risk follow-up: Closely monitoring infants during their development
  • Liquid Gold Donor Milk Program: A community-sourced resource of breast milk, a critical source of nutrition, for those mothers who are unable to produce their own

What to Expect in the NICU

We understand having a baby that needs critical care is scary and overwhelming. Remember, we are here to help get your baby on the path to thrive, and we’re your partner in doing what is best for your newborn. Your baby will have 24/7 attention. Depending on their needs, other specialists may provide consultations. As your baby’s care continues, we may transfer them to one of our locations closer to your home.
