Daniel Charen MD, is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder. His focus is on both the non-operative and surgical treatment of shoulder, knee, hip and elbow conditions and providing a personalized approach to getting patients back to their active lifestyles. Sports medicine allows him to perform surgery using minimally invasive techniques but also has the expertise of using open approaches when necessary. He is an Instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the New York Medical College School of Medicine and is the head team physician for Pascack Valley High School in Bergen County, NJ. He has worked as an assistant team physician for the NFL Houston Texans, NBA Houston Rockets, MLB Houston Astros, MLS Houston Dynamo, NWSL Houston Dash and the University of Houston football and basketball teams.
Dr. Charen received his undergraduate degree at Cornell University. He graduated medical school at the University of Rochester with a Distinction in Research. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai Hospital, followed by a Sports Medicine and Shoulder fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Charen is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons, with his research on college athlete injuries appearing in numerous publications, presentations and media outlets.
