POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (August 10, 2022) – Cardiac care options have increased for residents of the Mid-Hudson region with the reopening of the Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth).

Early diagnosis is critical in minimizing the effects of heart disease. In a cardiac catheterization laboratory, cardiologists evaluate how well a patient's heart is working and determine if the patient's arteries are clogged or the patient is suffering from other forms of heart disease*.

Chest pain, dizziness, fatigue and shortness of breath are symptoms forewarning a possible heart attack. Patients experiencing these or other concerning symptoms should call 911 immediately or visit their nearest emergency department. Referring physicians or those seeking a consultation from a cardiology specialist at MidHudson Regional Hospital should call 845.483.5720.

As part of WMCHealth's Heart and Vascular Institute, the cardiology team at MidHudson Regional Hospital treats a full range of heart-related illnesses. These conditions include heart valve disease; coronary artery disease; acute coronary syndrome; angina; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; heart failure; cardiac arrhythmia; valvular heart disease; and inherited heart disease.

For more complex patient situations requiring higher level of care MidHudson Regional Hospital patients are transferred seamlessly to other WMCHealth hospitals, such as HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern or Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

"MidHudson Regional Hospital is bringing new options for cardiac care to local residents, and these services are backed by WMCHealth's Heart and Vascular Institute, which uses a regional strategy of care with an emphasis on keeping patients closer to home," said Lovely Chhabra, MBBS, Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Services, MidHudson Regional Hospital.
