MidHudson Regional Hospital Welcomes James Feeney, MD, FACS, as Director of Trauma Services
Dr. Feeney is responsible for leading MidHudson Regional Hospital’s trauma team and ensuring injured patients at the hospital’s Level II trauma center receive the safest, most appropriate care.
MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), welcomes trauma and general surgeon James M. Feeney, MD, FACS, as Director of Trauma Services.
Dr. Feeney is responsible for leading MidHudson Regional Hospital's trauma team and ensuring injured patients at the hospital's Level II trauma center receive the safest, most appropriate care. He is also involved in professional and public trauma education and training through WMCHealth's trauma program.
MidHudson Regional Hospital's George T. Whalen Family Trauma Center is the first and only facility between New York City and Albany to earn Level II trauma verification from the American College of Surgeons. WMCHealth flagship Westchester Medical Center and member Maria Fareri Children's Hospital are both verified Level I trauma centers.
Board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, Dr. Feeney brings battlefield medical experience as well as civilian clinical expertise and academic credentials to MidHudson Regional Hospital.
A U.S. Navy commander since 1988, Dr. Feeney was the director of surgical services and chief of trauma at a military base in Qalat, southern Afghanistan in 2013. The base supports Navy tactical operations in the Afghanistan War. Before his Afghanistan deployment, Dr. Feeney was a U.S.-based military physician for 13 years in the Navy's Medical Corps.
Receiving his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, now the Geisel School of Medicine, Dr. Feeney completed a fellowship in trauma surgery and critical care at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, part of the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Before joining MidHudson Regional Hospital, Dr. Feeney was the director of trauma and surgical research at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn. He was also an associate professor of surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington and an assistant professor of surgery at the Frank H. Netter M.D. School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, near New Haven, Conn.
Dr. Feeney, who lives in Poughkeepsie, is also a lifelong bagpipe player who has directed the Talcott Mountain Highlanders pipe band of Simsbury, Conn., near Hartford, since 2015.
