Shoppers at West Nyack’s Palisades Center mall were recently treated to a thrilling sight.
No, it wasn’t a sale banner, but rather da Vinci and Mako, the medical robots of Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), that were on display. The machines, which help physicians at the Suffern-based hospital perform certain surgeries, were available for anyone to observe and even try. Surgeons, nurses, and technicians from Good Samaritan Hospital’s robot team were on hand to provide information, as well. During the event, student winners of a recent “Name the Robot Contest,” Kelly Gazzara (above, in denim jacket) from Pearl River Middle School and Luke Flanagan from the Macarthur Barr Middle School, were also announced. With amazing demos and fun giveaways throughout the day, the event generated increased public appreciation for medical robots — automatically.
