MidHudson Regional Hospital Hosts Teddy Bear Clinic Educational Event
As seen in the November/December 2019 Issue of Advancing Care
Bringing their favorite stuffed animals, a dozen preschool-age children from the Early Education Center at MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), participated in an educational event in the hospital’s Emergency Department.
In the department’s fast-track area, where patients with relatively minor urgent conditions are treated quickly, the children donned surgical masks as nurses and nurse technicians demonstrated how vital signs are taken and wounds are treated. Some children put bandages around their stuffed animals’ arms or legs, and an X-ray technician pretended to take an image of each child’s stuffed animal.
The children also toured an ambulance from Poughkeepsie’s Fairview Fire Department and learned about ambulance equipment and emergency medical techniques.
