Full Steam Ahead for WMCHealth Hospital Transformations

Kingston project gets green light from NYS Department of Health; Port Jervis project begins renovations.

Focused on meeting the evolving healthcare needs of Hudson Valley residents, exciting Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) projects are progressing in Kingston and Port Jervis. Expanded and enhanced hospital facilities will soon feature convenient, one-stop locations for medical services and healthcare needs. These “villages” will promote primary care and community collaborations, aiming to reduce hospitalizations and keep people healthy in their communities.

With final approval from the New York State Department of Health, a $92.9 million project transforming the Mary’s Avenue Campus of HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, a member of WMCHealth, is scheduled to formally begin this fall.

“The transformation will enable HealthAlliance to deliver an even higher level of care, locally, through enhanced facilities and services, world-leading healthcare technologies and new programs,” says Michael D. Israel, President and CEO, WMCHealth. “We’re glad New York State shares our vision for a healthier community.”

In Port Jervis, a $40 million renovation focused on outpatient services is already transforming the campus of Bon Secours Community Hospital, another member of WMCHealth. His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, recently led a dedication and blessing of a temporary Emergency Department that will allow patient care to continue seamlessly as work continues on an enhanced Emergency Department, as well as a new laboratory and imaging suite.

Plans for the expanded hospital at HealthAlliance Hospital: Mary’s Avenue Campus will incorporate inpatient and emergency services, currently divided between the Mary’s Avenue and Broadway campuses, into one location. Along with a new 25,000-square-foot emergency room providing emergency care, including cardiac and behavioral healthcare, a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a “stepdown” unit will offer an intermediate level of care between the ICU and new medical-surgical wards. Plans also feature a new birthing center with modern labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms, an imaging department with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment, and remodeled ambulatory surgery, infusion therapy and endoscopy units. A welcoming new hospital lobby will feature services for registration, financial counseling, a gift shop, pharmacy and a comfortable waiting area. Most patient rooms will be private.

After the Mary’s Avenue construction project is completed, operations at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus will be consolidated into the Mary’s Avenue campus, allowing for the conversion of the Broadway campus into a health village, with innovative services meeting the outpatient health and wellness needs of local residents.

In Port Jervis, collaboration with community partners, an important component of the medical village concept, has already begun focusing on services such as women’s health, mental health and pediatrics. The projects and partnerships contribute to the health and well-being of both Hudson Valley communities.
