WMCHealth’s Telemedicine ICU Program Earns Top Rankings in National Quality Survey
The Westchester Medical Center Health Network’s (WMCHealth) eHealth telemedicine program, which provides round-the-clock care to more than 100 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients daily on campuses across the Hudson Valley, has been recognized as one of the nation’s top telemedicine programs three consecutive times in a national quality survey.
The survey measures key ICU patient-health indicators, such as blood-sugar levels, ventilator settings and venous thromboembolism prophylaxis. WMCHealth’s program ranked first, second and third in the last three quality surveys, which collected data from more than 50 telemedicine hubs monitoring patients in more than 300 hospitals across the United States.
“Quality is paramount in our patient-care model, and our team has worked diligently to reach this standard,” says Corey Scurlock, MD, MBA, Medical Director of WMCHealth’s eHealth program. “Our program was built from the ground up, just a few years ago, and this recognition is proof-positive of eHealth’s operational success. It is also a testament to our staff’s clinical skill and unwavering dedication to our patients, many of whom are critically ill or injured.”
The first and only program of its kind in the region, WMCHealth’s telemedicine program launched in 2015 to improve healthcare outcomes among Hudson Valley patients. At its core is the network’s 5,500 sq. ft. eHealth Center, which boasts 20 multimedia stations equipped with the latest patient-monitoring technologies and software. The eHealth Center is staffed around the clock by highly trained clinicians who serve remotely as a complement to the dedicated bedside teams in the ICUs at Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of WMCHealth and network affiliate MidHudson Regional Hospital.
Consultations through eHealth are also available at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus in Kingston. In addition to the eICU services, eHealth offers TeleTrauma at MidHudson Regional Hospital, HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus and Margaretville Hospital, all members of WMCHealth; TeleStroke at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus and Margaretville Hospital; and Mobile ICU in transfer ambulances operated by WMCHealth.
