Westchester Medical Center Recognized for Care of LGBTQ Community
As seen in the December 2020 Issue of Advancing Care.
Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), was recently recognized by the leading national organization for LGBTQ rights for its equitable and compassionate care. For the second straight year, WMC received LGBTQ Healthcare Equity Top Performer status in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2020 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).
More than 750 healthcare facilities participated in the 2020 HEI benchmark survey that evaluates facility policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees – and Westchester Medical Center was one of fewer than 200 medical facilities to receive Top Performer recognition. Facilities participating in the survey are evaluated for non-discrimination and staff training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, as well as patient and community engagement.
“We are honored to be named a Top Performer once again by the HRC for all that we do to create welcoming and inclusive environments for our LGBTQ patients, community members and workforce,” says Mecca Mitchell, Senior Vice President, Diversity, Inclusion & Community Engagement. “We will continue partnering with LGBTQ organizations throughout the Hudson Valley region to ensure we are being responsive to the needs of the diverse communities we serve.”
