Posted By: Advancing Care

As seen in the September 2020 Issue of Advancing Care.

To meet the needs of the Hudson Valley community during the COVID-19 crisis, WMCHealth launched a Virtual Health and Wellness Series.

Moderated by Mecca Mitchell, Senior Vice President, Diversity, Inclusion & Community Engagement, this series offers valuable information to the Hudson Valley community — in the safety and comfort of their own homes.
The debut event explored several facets of the COVID pandemic from the African American perspective. Panelists included African American Men of Westchester Health Committee chairs S. Hassan Bilal and Edwin Bowman, and Renee Garrick, MD, WMCHealth’s Chief Medical Officer.

In partnership with The LOFT LGBT Community Center and Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center, WMCHealth hosted Pride 2020, Surviving and Thriving, a virtual education session about LGBT mental health and wellness in the age of COVID-19. The session featured LOFT LGBT Community Center Executive Director Judy Troilo and Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center Executive Director Jeff Rindler-Jordan, as well as Stephen Ferrando, MD, Director, Behavioral Health Center and Abraham Bartell, MD, MBA, Associate Director, Psychiatry, Division Chief, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, WMCHealth.

The Heal-THY Self Virtual Series offered counseling and coping resources for faith leaders on the spiritual frontline of comforting congregants. Participants included Dr. Ferrando and Reverend John Simon, Director of the WMCHealth Network Chaplaincy.
